I think it was 'Mythbusters' that had a show illustrating that tired drivers are worse than drunk drivers. And speeding kills more probably.

There have always been idiots, laws don't stop that. I was one for many years and was proud I could somehow drive home after ten pints of beer at the rugby club. I am amazed I never killed anyone, and of course, when/if you finally grow up, it is that responsibility to others that teaches you. So we smoked dope instead ... and decided motorbikes were safer!

My personal best fun driving was on mushrooms of the psilocybe type. I got lost in Wales on the shrooms when the roads all turned into rivers made of a kind of treacle and all the road signs decided to turn into some kind of weird fluorescent Ogham script. After driving at five miles an hour for a while trying not to lose any more of my mind, I worked out that if I ate more mushrooms my car turned into a canoe and I was able to match the road signs against the same script on the maps and find my way home. The journey that would usually take an hour took three hours according to my worried girlfriend who was waiting for me to arrive back from a short trip to the shops fro munchies, but for me I got back before I even left.

I am not proud of it, just relieved nothing ever happened to me or others beyond writing off my ute once, waking up the next morning wrapped round a tree, miles from anywhere, with no memory of anything. The benefit of those days was far less traffic. Nowdays I never ever drive or ride when tired, I don't drink or take drugs. Still drive too fast though although I make huge efforts not to.
