Truly a bizarre little, uh, scootercycle. Will be interested to hear more about your experience with it.

I get this question a lot too, especially since the Jialing JH600 remains quite rare in China. Usually, someone will figure out the pinyin on the side and realize that despite my being an obviously non-Chinese rider it's not a "ha lei" (Harley). but rarely does someone ask, "what's that?" The question almost always is, "How much?" It took me several months to figure out a good comeback. Initially, I was rude and dismissive, saying, "Is that really the only question you can think of asking? How about, 'What is it?' or 'How fast can it go?' or 'How's torque in the power band?'" But this only made me feel shame and anger at myself. China is what it is. Expats like me, though I've lived here more than 20 years, need to resist the temptation to preach to our hosts.

And finally I found the right rejoinder -- one that generally stops the topic cold, in a surprising way, and breaks the ice for other questions:

"诶?你是不是想买?" --- "What? You'd like to buy it?"

If the questioner is on foot, this question usually causes him to physically recoil, while everyone else laughs out loud.

Try it and see what response you get!
