02-28-2011, 09:43 AMNo, this is not in China, and I'm not even sure how I stumbled onto it, but what a revelation! It casts Yves' search in a whole new light!
Yes, this is a Gold Wing -- minus the living room furniture...

Sure is!
Last October, or so, there was some young Chinese guy that showed up at Jimbos, out of the blue one Saturday, with an immaculate and completely original 1979 wing. The thing had 100 miles on the clock and although mileage like that would always be suspect, the bike did indeed look brand new. Having owned one of those, back in the day, everything about the bike was completely correct, and original. I never heard the story of how he came upon such a find.
The teenaged owner was wondering about whether a sidecar could be mounted (good business, i guess, for Jim, but I almost punched the guy out for thinking of doing such a thing to that classic).
Anyways, you can ask Jim who the guy was (Jim might have they owner's contact details). THAT would be a great bike to get one's hands on. And, in a perfect dream world, he'd just think it was an "old bike" and sell it for a few thousand rmb.

So I just noticed this weekend, aren't the Beijing motorcycle police riding Honda Goldwings? How did they get them registered? :P

03-16-2011, 01:20 AMI've seen Chinese cops on big bimmers, but never a Honda. The squads that escort China's leaders have always been on BMWs, in my (dodgy) memory.

I just realized a solution to Yves' problem: Become a Beijing police officer! You'll be able to ride a Goldwing all day! :)

Bad idea - he speaks French - and that means I can't profess "je ne comprends pas!" when stopped over the questionable provenance of my XTR plates. In Beijing, these days, too many police speak English. My only escape is Canadian French! Of course, then again, not many Parisians understand Quebecois! (aka nongmin francais)
