Let's chat chain maintenance briefly (which I know seems premature for my bike).

    How often, best practice, etc?

I've read about the pickle method for cleaning, seems like it would be a cheap and effective way to clean. What about lube? I've read both Motorex and the Dupont Teflon sprays are good. What are your personal experiences with these methods? Do you generally put your bikes on a jack to clean/lube or do you find it easy enough to just keep the chain stationary to clean?

Ok I'm about to readjust the tire again due to chain stretch. I usually put the bike on the jack once a week to make sure everything is in working order. as far as cleaning i haven't done one yet but i did lube it up using a chain lube i picked up from the local Honda dealer. I believe it was Dupont, it worked great but left a mess on the bat box and frame when i rode. A little windex and all was good.
The chain will stretch at about 50 - 100 miles and then again around 500 from what I saw. should only have to adjust twice. the chain is a 428, not a 530 like I thought. i measured the wrong one.
Locktite is your friend and a little dab here and there is all you need.
    hope this answers your questions.
i do have one for you and your brother though. Are you having fun yet?

Be sure to post some of your rides and pictures in the ride report thread to share with everyone. There are tons of useful info throughout this board that you guys might find helpful and awesome people that are willing to share that info. Poke about a bit and enjoy

Well the weather continues to be crap here, I haven't had the bike out since the initial ride on Saturday. It's rained everyday since. I think they're continuing to call for rain through this coming Saturday. I wish I had more to report, but unfortunately I don't.

Damn this rain... day 4 of the drizzle drizzle here. Pretty sure every two-wheeler in the Northeast has the twitchies right about now.

Here's how I deal with the chain -

After a good ride, I use a citrus based chain cleaner sprayed in a rag. Run it a few times around the chain with some elbow grease. Watch the rollers to get all the gunk out. Wipe down with a clean rag before spraying on the Motorex. I like to let it sit overnight and give it a final wipe down in the morning.

Usually I'll also wipe down the whole bike with some quick detailer and hit other stuff with a spray lube. All cables anywhere the wire comes out of the housing and any metal/metal moving parts like the pivot points on the brake/clutch levers.

I worked in a bicycle shop for more than I care to remember, thats called the 15 minute $75 tune up, works just as well on motorbikes, but the price gets tripled.

hey guys, new here but am seriously looking at buying this bike. First I want to know if anybody has done any of the following mods and how difficult they would be. I was thinking about removing all switches on handlebars and relocating (so bars aren't so bulky), wiring through frame, jockey shift, flat black entire bike (i mean everything), and chopping rear fender (with enough room for brake light). Anybody done these things or having any useful info about it? Also, I have looked at numerous Heists and can't seem to find the kickstart, which it says it has?...I love that feature. Thanks
