#1 Crack down on beijings electric scooter - TO BE BANNED SOON!06-01-2011, 04:48 PM
Scooter riders take heed. (for beijingers only)
There will be a new regulation to come maybe by end of the year that electric scooters weighing more than 40 kilo and runs faster than 20 kmh will be totally banned. the good government is considering a buyout of the would be useless toy.
this is realy stupid as the battery itself weighs more than 40 kilo if you use 4 batterys.
I just lost my electric scooter so it wont affect me. lol
you have been warned...

Electric bicycles not electric scooters….it does not help that they show a scooter in the photo.

06-02-2011, 04:25 AMHere we go again ... a comment from the article sums up the situation rather well. They tried this in Shanghai earlier and it failed as too many people were against the policy.
--------------
They tried something like this before and it was unworkable as it had not been thought through. Too many people have too much to lose again.
It would be better to list a new class of vehicle and maybe call it 'heavy electric bicycle'. You would need to pass a test and have a licence for this new class. That way there is control over who can ride one (so no 12 year olds on 60kph machines), and there is still a market for the larger machines (nobody has to lose a machine that cannot be sold on) and the manufacturers who have tooled up production lines will still be able to get a return on their investment.

Big black car? Stuck in traffic? Don't want to blame cars for the problem? Blame every other road user! Ban ban ban. Trucks-banned, motorcycles-banned, soon ebikes. What next bicycles? Retards.

06-03-2011, 01:47 AMCannot see this being actually enforced. Police in Shanghai cannot keep unlicensed cars off the road (seeing lots of these lately) much less unlicensed ebikes. Just another example of the lovely incongruity in this country.

06-03-2011, 01:47 AMBanning black cars would be the best solution indeed! You have to be stupid anyway, buying a black car in such a dusty city!
