I'm seeing some good deals on used HD Sportsters near me and I want to make sure I'm not buying too little bike with the Heist. I realize it's a 250 (or 229 I guess) but with some carb mods, the emissions junk stripped, and straight pipes will this thing get from 0 - 45/50 in a reasonable time? Can I expect to stay ahead of an F250 on a 50mph secondary road? I'm 5' 11", 170lbs. I'm not looking to tear ass down the Interstate, I just don't want some soccer mom or big ass pickup to turn me into a speed bump 'cause I can't get up to speed in time. Any input from you folks who've been riding these a while is appreciated.
I wouldn't worry about getting up to 50. Even with the factory muffler it gets there quick as most cars on the road. I've never felt rushed by traffic behind me. Above that (60-65) the bike will keep up just fine, but is absolutely no rocket. It took me a while to get used to it on the 60 mph roads around here, mostly watching for bumps and potholes, hanging on for dear life etc. After a little time on the bike it's really no big deal.

In terms of the Sportster, yeah dude I want one too. In addition to the CCW. For a learner chop I couldn't ask for more out of the Heist. I've gained so much basic knowledge about how bikes work. And it looks exactly what I wanted a bike to look like. No compromises.

Another bike I recently became enamoured by is the Suzuki SV650. Little vtwin naked sport bike. Go for under 3K around here. Rode a friends and it was just a fun machine. Not a crotch rocket, but more of a standard bike. Compared to the heist, yeah it had gobs of power lol. Would be fun to have a bike like that for longer rides out.

For around town and general hooliganism I'd still want the Heist. It rides like a BMX.

hey everyone, new guy here. i live in sacramento california and ill be getting my heist from Scooter City. they were mentioned in Cycle Worlds article about tha heist. as far as i know they are the only dealers in the west coast. they have a Misfit and Ace at there shop that ive seen and sat on. according to them they are the only ones in the whole USA.
Anyway, ive read this entire thread and found out some great info, and ill be sure to post plenty of pics once i get my heist next week. and ill be asking a bunch of mod questions too haha, like can i just cut the tip of my stock exhaust off like slash cut style without rejeting or any issues?
haha thanks guys, and if anyone is in the sacramento area, come get some ink and we'll talk bikes!

Welcome to the madhouse, Pete. Judging from the many posts in this epic thread, there's a lot to love about Tha Heist, even with Tha Misspelling!

Let us know how you get on, and, as others will tell you, without pix, your bike don't exist!

    Ride safe!

    cheers

It's a tough call man. I've found an '86 883 sporter, bored out to 1200 per the seller, with a springer front end, 12' apes and a lowered rear for about a grand more than Heist + mods. I figure that's probably too much bike for a first time rider but I'm unlikely to get an upgrade approved any time soon by the boss (aka wife). I'm leaning toward the Heist and a possible engine swap later if I need more bike.

Ok guys managed to get access, the ride up was amazing we did the trip in just over 4 hrs and the Widow has handled better than expected. Been up and down the mountain with the bike from Glen Falls where we are staying to Lake George. Hit some heavy rain. And the bike was soked buy she still handled well. While in town I've had groups and groups of folks gawking on the bike. More so that's its a 250 and I had ridden all the way up and around.

    PeteBoozer,
Normally when you decrease back pressure by alterering the muffler you will need to increase the fuel flow by increasing the size of the jets to get the benefit of improved performance. It's not a big deal to change the jets on the carburetor and it's not the end of the world if you don't change the jets.

Thanks, Ill probably keep it stick for awhile. Seems like everyone here has got there's for a decent price, like gardo you said you were still under 4k evenwith all your custom stuff. Where I'm at tha heist is priced at $3998. But it is the only place in California, or even the west coast that has them. I'm thinking maybe I can talk em down, or have em throw I'm some extras :)
