Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information

IMO this is the best beginner bike. It's easy to work on and easy to ride. The only problem I have had is matching the right parts for it. Its not like some of the big bike companies, where you can find parts by exact make and model.Thanks to the guys on this thread that was made easier. This forum is so valuable.

I just happened to find this thread while looking for reviews on the Bobber that I found through the Scooter Depot. And I liked the look of it and price. But i have little experience on fixing a bike or riding. And i am completely new to Chinese bikes. SO would this be a good bike for someone with my lack of knowledge.

I'd stay away from scooterdepot, looks like most guys here had a better result with www.extremescooters.biz, also make sure that you could reg the bike before ordering it. Barnone was nice enough to post a VIN#

I got mine from scooter depot and I get 50/50 service. I have spken to the most helpful and nice people and the rudiest two ladys in customers services. The bike was delivered fast and I should have the MSO soon.

I am glad I read all of this. I figured I would go the route of buying a bobber rather then going out of my way to build one with my very limited time. I'm not aiming for a highway cruiser with this, more of a city and hills cruiser since I'm a city boy and my girl is a country bumpkin. Lol. So I'll get plenty of hills and back roads with this girl.

How are the tires on this thing? I am wondering if they are the typical cheap tire that come on most of these budget bikes. I know on my scooter I switched the tires out after the first oil change. I had no confidence in the turns on the stock tires. They would start to slip at 20. Swapped them for some Shinko White walls and I can turn in at full speed without a problem.

Also how much power do you think the frame can handle for a future motor swap?

Tires appear to be very good quality and handle the curves here in the mountains of North Carolina just fine. I also do three miles of rough gravel roads every time I ride my DF to get to pavement and the tires and bike handle it just fine. The tires are true tubeless tires (no tubes) on spoked rims which is very unusual on motorcycles. I have over 1600 miles on my DF so far with no problems.

Have no ideal how much power the frame would handle on an engine upgrade. It does have a very robust chain size (520) and seems to be well put together.

I though I had found a 400cc version of the engine that comes in the DF but it appears to be vapor ware.

You need some knowledge of working on motorcycles in order to be successful with a drop ship bike in the crate. Do you have a friend or independent bike shop in your area that could help you put the bike together? There are some dealers selling the DF but don't know of any in Arkansas.

It's a very simple bike that is easy to work on but I'd hate to see you have a bad experience like some of the others in this thread.

I know a few Mechanics personally that have worked on and owned bikes, though I dont know if they have ever worked on a Chinese one. Or does it really matter?

The motors are fairly simple to work on. Mechanics should be able to handle this work. My friend and I bought some Chinese scooters from scooterdepot, I have had to do some work on both, but they are pretty straight forward with some mechanical know how.

And thanks for the answer Barnone, mind if I call you Vince? It is good to know they are good tires, and even better that this thing is good in gravel. My girl lives out in the country, so there are gravel roads her way that made me worry. I guess all the sportbike riding has made me nervous around gravel. Lol. That and the craptastic tires that were on my scooter. So after 1600 miles, how is the tread holding up, do you think you'll be able to break the 3000 mile mark on these tires?

have you ordered one yet or not. I Live in north west Arkansas where there is a big mixture of dirt, gravel, and paved roads. and i would like to know how it holds up to the county roads.

I have not yet. My funds aren't quite there at this point in time, but I am really looking into picking one up to cruise around town, the back roads in the country, and cross over into Cincinnati for some more picture opportunities. I can't take the scooter because scooters need to be registered and you need a license over there, and here here in Kentucky, anything under 50cc's doesn't need a license, registration, or insurance. Hopefully both of my jobs pick up a bit more so I can get the bike before riding season is over. Barnone has done the gravel, mountain roads, and even the beach on his. He'll be able to answer that question a bit better.

BTW Barnone, I love the pics. The bike, and land are very nice. I hope to retire like you one day. How is the cushion on the seat for long days of riding? Is it better with the cover on it?
