08-29-2011, 08:19 AMExactly what I was thinking. Lots of nice midsized hardware in Suzuki's repertoire. But no, they're starting with kilobikes and above only.
And, sadly, that 'busa will sell like hotcakes. If you've already got a Lambo Galliano and a Porsche Cilantro and Ducati Moltostrada and an H-D Road Queen, only a 'busa will fit the bill....
And, yes, there will be a backlash against all motorcycles after some pampered Son of Li Gang pulverizes himself and a pedestrian or three while doing 250kph down Huaihai Lu...jkp

and to add to the 1000cc+ bikes on offer is the Honda ST1300 which is actually a more suited ride compared to balls out sports bikes such as the Suzuki GSX1300R and VZR1800, though for anything outside the first tier cities, a dual purpose bikes is way more practicable/practical... which is where a BMW G650GS or F650GS/F800GS would just about be right on the money, or DR650, DL650 V-Strom etc. and speaking of money the costs with the latter bikes would see a huge chunk of change from the prices of the Honda ST1300, Suzuki GSX1300R or VZR1800. Notwithstanding that the Jialing JH600 sits in the mix somewhere.

True.
Based on the road conditions in China, some bike manufacturers should push for dual-sport bikes in their range, not bloody useless sports bikes for "sunny sundays riders" in the French concession in Shanghai for example...
I'd love to get my hands on the Triumph Tiger 800 XC for example.
Who want to bet on this : how long does it take between the time big sports bikes are legally available for purchase, and the time some spoiled brat kill somebody on the street and the public authority have to react and crack down on all bike owners ?

I think that one has to temper our collective wants, desires and needs with what the average wealthy Chinese motorcyclist wants to put the hard earned (cough, cough) kuai into. There are already the high end dual purpose motorcycles (R1200GS's/F800GS's & F650GS (800cc) and the lower spec single cyclinder G650GS), so it would seem that other motorcycle manufacturers want to look at different segments of a segmented and fragmented market.
There are not a lot of options when it comes to the higher end or spec segment, and since there is plenty of affluent willing to throw kuai around, then the major motorcycle players will opt for that end of the market, plus they also need to spend a considerable sum and investment into getting the respective models approved, certified and CCC'd. Hence it makes sense from that perspective. The other point not to be lost, is the top end of the manufacturers models, being that much more costly, will allow a little more market presence and penetration before some one attempts to copy one or more of the moto's offered. Us lot in PRC collectively represent just a fraction of the segment, and many of us complain about the prices of imported models as it is, consequently we are not the audience these manufacturers are aiming these models at.
Yes, also agree that all these go-fast models and even the 200km/h+ CFMoto CF650N will likely cause a few unwelcome ripples as and when the said rides inflict injury and loss of life. Actually I worry more for the riders of the CF650N than the purchasers of these hyper sport rides from Honda and Suzuki, as they attract a different calibre of rider and in smaller numbers than the CF650N has, which has seen all 3 production runs sold out, well before the models hit the dealers floors.Last edited by bikerdoc; 10-10-2011 at 02:48 AM.
