I was wondering something, and bear with me, it's an honest question of mine, not trying to say that you got played : how can one know that the bike is really a CB400, and not a disguised Kawa like they said before that they were doing in the same shop, and the end result was almost identical, to the eyes at least ?

Surely the VIN numbers on the engine and bike cannot be the only "proof", can it ? In China we all know everything is available in terms of certificates, seals, etc. . Surely they can fake VIN numbers too, no ?
So once again, honest question : how can you know for sure it's a real CB400 ?

Anyway, it's really a beautiful bike, and especially in blue. I'm jealous... ;-))

Well first off I could see that the engine was a lot bigger, and it looked real, lifting the seat there was a lot of Katakana and Hiragana (Japanese alphabets) so it's for sure a Jap bike, the part numbers under the seat also looked right, I have now downloaded the workshop manual and it's without a doubt the real thing ;)

Not saying what already exist is not decent, anyone into "imported" bike should buy brand new... I was quoted 30% more than what you get in US from a underground agent, not a bad option added to your inventory regardless of legit paper.

a very interesting ride report, i am currently living in fujian and plan to ride to my next contract (up north) in January, so i dont think i will be quite as happy as you guys seem to have been (plus will be doing it alone). but its nice to know roughtly what awaits me when crossing into adjacent provinces.

I know this sort of thing should come at the beginning of a ride report.. but well here's the route we more or less took, we were planning as we went along (in internet cafe's and hotels), our first map was our escape from Guang Dong Province:



Not a very exciting ride, but it has its moments.

This was the route we took all the way up the Western side of Fujian.... and without doubt the best part of the trip, I can't recommend these roads enough (see Taiwan on the far right)

Here's the route we took up into the beautiful mountains and farms which ended up being a dead-end... these are must-ride roads if you're in the area..

Here's our 460km one day loop excursion into Jaingxi province, we were drunk and forgot to tick the "avoid main roads" google maps option, so you'll see a small segment is on the highway.. avoid that...

Here's the route we took back all the way down the middle-Eastern part of Fujian.. not for those who can't handle a little dirt and construction along the way... (especially near to Zhanping), we knew the way back from Meizhou pretty much, although we did take a different route and see some interesting places.
