09-22-2011, 05:15 AMHaving ridden quite a lot around China (Shandong, Hubei, Hunan, Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou on a Qingqi 200Gy and Zongshen Sierra), but ive now decided to go a bit further. I want to ride from China to the UK.
I hope to go something like: China - Kaz'stan/Mongolia - Russia - Ukraine - Mainland Europe - UK.
I was hoping to call on you for 2 pieces of advice:
First, how do people rate the JH600? Is it good enough and reliable enough to make the distance with 2 people and luggage?
Or, does anyone have any other suggestions for a bike i can buy and register in China?
Two, is it possible to get the bike out of China and then into and out of all following countries?
When i finish in the UK i plan to have the bike shipped back to China.
Im at the beginning of my planning, so all advice is very much welcome.

I heard of BMW riders going all the way from Shanghai to Munich every year to join some BMW bike festival. So in theory it should be possible to get a China plated bike through all the countries you mentioned...

Sounds like a great trip
I think the JH600 will do it. However, search around the forum and contact JH600 owners to get an idea of what technical problems they had - there were some as I remember.
It is ok to ride a Chinese registered bike outside China but there will be some requirements in different countries:
Russia, Kaz and Kyrg formed a customs union and as soon as you enter this union you have to do a customs declaration. One some borders they don't ask you to do this, so insist on it to be on the safe side.
In all countries you pass through you will have to buy insurance at the border as you enter. Entering the EU, insurance will be valid an almost all Europe (green insurance card).
To be able to bring your bike back to China make sure it is registered in your (or your passengers name). Next, apply for a temporary export permit with the local customs office (where the bike is registered).
It will be wise to have an English translation of the bikes green and blue books, issued or notarized by your embassy.
A Swiss couple rode on Chinese registered bikes from Beijing to Istanbul and flew the bikes back.Andy

09-22-2011, 07:29 AMThanks Andy, plenty of positive advise to get me started. China always provides an organistaional challenge! I'm pretty sure Wuhan doesnt plate bikes anymore and thats where im registered to live. So, if i want to get the bike plated i'll have to get someone else in another city (a city that plates bikes) to plate it and then buy it off them. Do you know if i can still register the bike for exit-entry purposes if im buying 'second hand'.
BTW, love the idea of you riding around with a China plate in Austria!

09-22-2011, 07:42 AMGreat post and great adventure. The JH600 is a great bike for this, and surely is no more unreliable that a GS! I would not hesitate to make such a ride. Even if you have a major problem, like a blown clutch or similar, getting parts from China will be straightforward and cost about 1/4 of BMW parts. And Chinabiker is right: Be sure to spend a good amount of time in this forum to identify what's likely to go wrong, and how to prepare for it, or prevent it from happening!
Great stuff!jkp

MGAlbion...Sounds like a great ride!
Not much more to add to comments already posted by Chinabiker/euphonius, but feel free to contact us JH-guys if you have any specific questions on the bike. Between just a few of us in Shanghai we already have over 100,000 kms on the JH600 bikes, this is cumulative and I have included nostalgie (he has both the JH & JB and he alone has over 100K tracked on his collection of bikes in just 4 years!).
I am curious if anyone's heard of someone doing a major multi-country crossings on a JH600? I'll check around.
Oh, I hear euphonius wants to do Shanghai-Magadan next year (or at least that's what I keep telling him!! )_____________________

Not necessarily.... You can get a temporary residence permit from any police station and register in that city. I live in Dongguan (no motos) but register in Jiangmen via the temp permit. Very easy to do.
Looks like you have covered a lot of great places, how about some more ride reports.
Cheers!
