What the heck will Jincheng be ridding in the Dakar?
These?
Or maybe these?
“Once again we will be able to follow Su Wnmin on his Jincheng, who last year finished at a 75th position in the motorcycle category, out of the 88 who reached the goal. Being the first Chinese rider to cross the finishing line ever. And for sure him and his teammate at the time were struggling long hours in the dunes.Unfortunately his com padre Wei Guanghui, who was also a part of the historical event and finished 82, will not be around. And it seems impossible to find out for what ever reason he´s not on the team anymore. Instead Han Baohua will take his chances on the Dakar, as a debutant. A third rider will also participate on the Jincheng team, Oscar Pablo Pascual, but under Argentinian flag.”
Are we surprised that there is no Jialing Team in the race? Maybe it is that they simply are not up for such a challenge? The time and energy to assemble the resources for such an adventure…too challenging for Jialings leaders? That would require a good team of mechanics supporting some well made motorcycles, they might even learn something in that process?

So Jincheng has participated in the race since 2009, it makes me think of Harold and Kumar for some reason?
They have 250 and 450 class bikes, but they do not sell anything close to what they are racing? Isn’t the purpose of the involvement in racing to develop technology and then utilize that technology in production models? That and also to promote the brand…if too disconnected its actually a waste of time and effort.
Maybe they are, developing technology or maybe they just copied others engines and race to get noticed?
Jincheng has blurb on their website from 2008 announcing their participation in the 2009 race.
This is an excerpt...
“In the ceremony of go on expedition, Chen Jianguo and Wei Guanghui said that their but is to complete the whole racing route with domestic motorcycle and strive to win a good ranking. At present, be ready for this expedition.”
Both of their “but” did complete the race, but their but did not rank well.

The Chinese have a perfect opportunity for training/racing and promoting rally raids in their own country.Look at the Taklimakan Rally in Xinjiang. But do you hear about it?
Mongolia does far better promoting their rally.

12-28-2011, 03:58 AMAs I recall, it's hard to find coverage of the Taklimakan Rally in real time, though it's probably better in Chinese than in English. Perhaps we can turn up the heat during the 2012 running, and spotlight which makers participate and which don't.
Does anyone know whether Jialing has entered either their JH600 or their JH-150GY-3? (I'm not holding my breath...)
cheers

12-28-2011, 05:18 AMIn 2007 there was two JH600 in the Taklimakan Rally.
For Jinchen and the Dakar Rally - I am nearly sure that that they ride "masked" Yamaha's. - but anyway, great to see Chinese riders in Dakar again.Torben Vester - "Morfar"

01-02-2012, 04:31 AMNew rules for engine changes in Dakar this year:
1. change + 15 min.
2. change + 45 min.
3. change + 2 hours
They better take care and listen to the engine....:-)Torben Vester - "Morfar"

I read somewhere that Marc Coma said his plan is to use 2 engines at least, maybe a 3rd one if needed.
I wonder how long it would take them to do a top end rebuild.I guess the top teams would do it pretty quick.
Wouldn't like to be a privateer doing a top end rebuild after a long day in the saddle.
I see some people are using YZ450's those things aren't supposed to do long distances with out rebuilds.

You can follow the stage live http://gaps.dakar.com/2012/dakar/stage-02/aso/ukie.php
At least in China I don't need to stay up till some ungodly hour to follow it.
