Hello everyone,I have a dong fang 250 on the way.I have ridden for many years, and have grown tired of the sport bikes, and look forward to something somewhat more comfortable.
I like the old school looks of the df 250 better than the hiest, and the kikker just seemed way to hard to tag or get a hold of one.I saw one in person and it seemed really small. The df 250 is a full size bike, bare bones....just something I look forward to puttin around town on,maybe doing a sprocket change, see how well it does on the highway,I am looking forward to some long summer days at around 70 mpg in the mountains of good ol South Carolina.
I have been looking at bikes for a few months now,and it just amazes me that there are few manufacturers that sell a barebones old school bobber like the dong fang.
It is a shame that CHINA knows what a lot of people want in the Usa,lol!!!Flippin sad.
Its not about the cost of some of these china bikes, its the style people like.
My neighbor is in deep 20,000 with a loan for his big name motorcycle,so what if he can blow by me at around 75 mph is what I am reading what the df 250 can do???
As a rider of many years, its not if you go down, its when and I have the scars to prove it,does anyone really need to go faster than 75????
He can have his 20,000 dollar loan, his bad gas mileage, loss of hearing, his bike that looks like everyone elses , I will love being blown away on my china bobber, that looks cooler than his, at 70 mpg thats PAID OFF and cost a fraction of what his did.I was thinking it would be funny to get oner of those old silver bicycle finger bells that go on the handle bars,so when he gives me shyt,I can just ring the bell and give him the finger.lol
LOL!!!!!!!!!
The things you can do to this bike are endless, paint, fenders, seats and the if the engine blows, buy a new one for cheap-
I was a lurker for a while on here, and have one finally on the way,but of course I am reading that no one on this forum really has a df 250 or a bike in general till they post a pic.So as soon as I get it I will post a pic.
Glad to be here!!!

Hey Jawnee, nice to see ya here. I'm from Tallahassee but Tennessee and the Carolinas are my favorite riding in the states. I'm sure you know you're not far to the Dragon Back. I bet if you put some decent tires on the DF250 you could stick it out with most weekend riders through the corners. You should invite your neighbor out to ride up to Deal's Gap and back. I mean, going up you would hardly get out of 3rd and you could coast half the way back down, just riding the breaks the other half.
Or you could polish your bike with a $100 bill and when he asks tell your neighbor "it's already paid for, the tanks full, I just don't know what else to do".Last edited by Maux; 02-13-2012 at 01:39 PM. Reason: said "just" too many times

I definatley want to make it up to the tail of the dragon.I had a sportbike with tubeless tires on it once and lost a bead on the highway. It was the front tire and it was hard keeping it up.
I put air in it and it held after that, thats the only thing I could come up with is the bead broke somehow???It was werid.Fronty tire, straitaway, about 70.Then it held air after that just fine.
Any turning I would do from now on,I have decided will be on tubed tires.Think I am going to tube the df250rtb's tires.
I got that bike itch to ride that you just cant get rid of.I am waiting on the tracking number from the shipping company.I ordered late on friday,so it is just now Teusday so hopefully within the next few days I will get a tracking number.......
Or like all companies, they will tell you something is in stock, when it actually isnt, and they tell you whatver just to keep your business.
I shouldnt have any problems tagging it in Sc,there arent even any emissions testing here,or vehicle inspections.Maybe they are kinda truthful here, states dont care about emissions,or safety inspections etc...its about money.Maybe thats why in Sc we have a once a year property tax on our vehicles, which if your a late model car handyman genious jackass like myself, that 1910 yugo 4 wheel drive, show is cheap to drive.

Hopefully I got that picture to upload right.I finally got the bobber in late last night. Not knowing in all certain terms what to expect,I have to say that hands down, the df250rtb is one of the coolest bobbers I have ever seen. Its full size,I liked the spokes, they are pretty fat spokes, tires look reliable, are two ply.
I got the gloss black,I wanted flat but I actually like the gloss black. The paint looks good. The guy that delivered said all the way to my house,as it was delivered by a pick up after the dealer had it sent to his place by accident, the driver said all down route 95 on the east coast here, that everyone was stopping to see the bike or accelerating while he was driving just to look at the bike.
Some people at a gas station asked if it was an old norton or harley-lol!!
I am very satisfied at this point with the looks of the bike.It doesnt give the that cheap feeling or look at all.I honestly cannot believe how much the bike gives you that classic old bike feeling when looking at it.
Definatley one of the coolest bikes I have ever seen. The best out of the box old school looking bobber.I couldnt sleep thinking about it!!lol
I also thought before I got it about doing a lot of mods, painting it flat black, new seat etc.....I have to say,I love the way it looks the way it is!!The seat looks kinda cheap though, but everyone is saying its comfortable so if it is,I might keep it,or just cover it in leather because its rubber.
More to come-

I got it all together today, here is a pic of it in the crate.
It rides pretty good, took it for a tagless jaunt around the neighborhood at dark.Everything works on her, high beams, turn signals,no problems at all.Gassed it up,about a quart and a half of 10w40,started right up.You gotta get to know which way the choke works,I think all the way down on the carb choke is off.
Having many bigger bikes,it takes a little bit of getting used to but I didnt get it over thrity puposefully because there arent many straight aways where I rode.Anyone with minimal mechanical skills can put the acid in the battery, clamp the handle bars on,set up the foot pegs, drain the oil,put new oil in,and since the tires are tubeless,it is important to check the tire pressure and never let them get too low because you dont want a broken bead.Tommorow I am going to check for any loose bolts,or any bolts in high vibration areas that might need some lock tite.
The speedo lights up good at night,The light needs some adjusting, and I am going to lift her up tomorrow with my engine lift and spin the rear tire to make sure its true with no wobbles.First gear is short as everyone has read, and a sprocket as everyone talks about also would help.
The seat for me kinda sucked,I might go for another set of handle bars to bring em back a little bit.
So I got her all done, wasnt hard.I like the steel frame the bike came in,it will make good work for any future projects.I dont know if I mentioned that I am a below the right knee amputee as the result of a motorcycle accident. It makes rear breaking...not so much fun.The olf flat trackers used to use thumb breaks for the rear brakes so I htink I might go that route, rig something up.I have a love hate relationship with motorcycles, thats for sure.
Here is a better picture of the bike.If you dont like something on the bike, the mods are endless.I specifically love the wheels.Big spokes, nice tires, total classic look.I just love to ride and dont need to get there fast,I just like getting there and love the feel of bees up my nose :)

Nice looking bike, Jawnee, and thanks for posting pix. You might want to start posting your updates in barnone's megathread on the DF250RTB, which is the most trafficked thread in MCM with north of 1700 posts and 170k hits and counting. this here thread titled "hello everyone" won't get much traction, if you know what I mean!
Otherwise, you might start a new thread featuring your own bike and its mods, but choose a thoughtful, descriptive title if you want folks to see it.
Good luck with the new beast!jkp

I posted esarlier the tires were only a few plies. The tires are great, the rear tire is 4 ply on the sides and three on the bottom, lol, plenty of ply going around.
After about a week of riding, the left side started leaking under the gas tank where it bolted to the frame.A hairline crack. As others have said,I think it is because it was really torques when whoever assembled it tightened it down.
I tried gasket black engine gasket sealer on it and it has been holding for weeks no problem.Taking the tank off isnt hard.I just made sure when putting it back on not to over torque the nuts too much.
I take back the seat being uncomfortable,it really does feel alright.I like the rubber seat,it holds you to your bike.
Hitting the neutral as others have said can be a pain,it is easier to hit on the way back down when downshifting.
I threw in 10w40 oil,and I am wondering if putting in correct wet clutch type oil will help with hitting neutral???
I have already gotten down hitting neutral on the way down though-lol
It is a sound bike.Only other problem is the headlight,it points at the ground pretty good and I just have to take a file and elongate a few holes so I can adjust it better.
It stops great,I like the tires,a good cruiser type pattern, they look like they would do ok in the rain.I like the gloss black than pictures of flat black!I ordered flat, and got gloss black instead but I like it better.
I cant believe all the attention it gets.Everyone likes it who sees it and asks what it is.I tell em its a dong fang, straight from china off the boat;) screw em.Its paid for and I like it.
I also redid the sprocket to a 35 tooth,I thought I might have gotten a little to radical with it but I believe its perfect.I actually have a first gear now,and hitting 60 is easy now,and most of the time in normal 40 to 50 mph shift between 4th and fifth depending on whether its on a hill or not.
All in all the dong fang 250rtb is great. It looks even better up close and most pictures I have seen just do not do it justice.I couldnt believe how cool it looked when I got it.
So all in all a great bike for the price, thats for sure. The average person with minimal mechanical skills can work on this thing.
The problems with the bike was the hairline in the fuel tank where the left side bolt attached to it,the headlight needing some adjusting and you might want to put a smaller sprocket on the rear.
I did try the new ngk sparkplug and it didnt seem to change anything.
As people are saying,do one mod at a time as far as spark plug or sprocket, and make sure before you do a mod, that you ride it stock to see the difference.
The sprocket made a world of difference.
The bike has been very reliable,500 miles on her.
The battery was pretty much charged when I got it.I did put it on a charger for a little, and its been holding strong.
All the controls,lights,signals work etc.....horn.
I am only 5'9 and the handle bars could come back a little but just havent bothered with them yet.
I have been drinking more milk and my arms are still the same length:(
