Helping one of the MCM members out with his Shineray XY250GY, but hope to get some input from Shineray riders who have more experience with this bike then me.

    1. Suspension settings:
    - Does anyone has the factory settings for front and rear (compression, rebound and pre-load / spring length)?
    - I presume the front fork top setting screw is rebound, but is this right? (fork design seems almost like a Big Piston Fork design, in which case it could be compression as well).
    - In case it is rebound, where is the compression setting? (bike has neoprene fork covers, would not like to take them off if not needed).
    - Can I adjust the pre-load of the front fork?

    2. Sticking front:
    - I have the rear pretty nice set up already, but the front seems to stick.
I loosened the axle and pinchbolts, and had it "settled" again, but the problem persists.
Anyone had the same and solved it?

    3 Fork oil:
    - What is the viscosity of the standard oil (factory delivered /recommended)?

Any advise appreciated (by Milton) ..

    E.

the compression adjustment for the front fork is from underneath
having removed the dust cap device

there is no preload adjustment other than by adding spacers
these forks do seem to have a bit of stiction
apart from doing as you have done and release and retighten everything
    no idea
oil levels and weight ... a bit of guesswork and trial and error

edit: preload is adustable by the 19 mm nut on top of the cap(according to the manual)
    i will check that
the standard spring is for a rider 70 -80kg
over 80kg it should be a heavier spring 4.4n/mm

Thanks for your reply, and the above looks & sounds more then logical.
I however tried to turn them, but they are tight as hell, and as they look as a half-nut, I was afraid is was just cosmetic.

I got 1/2 of the sticking solved by carefully adjusting the axle, triples and forks again.
Took me a long time, as they seem to be very very sensible to any twisting, even the slightest bit.

What still puzzles me is the compression.
Besides of the sticking, I am kind of hitting a dead spot at 1/2 of the travel.
From there, front and rear are very much different.

Not sure if this is caused by thick fork oil, or too strong springs.

Did you ever change your fork oil?

i have not changed the oil as riding around the flatlands the forks are not doing much work
the preload adjustment dosnt seem possible with the set up there as there would be no locking
so i guess something was lost in translation in the book
bleeding the fork via the vent screw on the top might change the feel of stiffness on compression
i have both clickers set almost wide open
but this is for 98% road riding , i just want it nice and comfy
although when i have caned it on a bumpy as hell dirt track it tracked straight
so i think the basic settings are in the ballpark

btw you can estimate the viscosity of the old oil by timing a bubble rising through it and comparing to a known oil

    Thanks for the info (again).
I have front and rear more or less balanced now, seems the pre-load on the front is kind of ok.
And the rear I do not dare to increase any further, as Milton has to climb the bike like a horse already

I however dialed in a substantial amount of rebound on the front and rear, and some compression as well.
The rear shock reacts to the adjustments pretty well, the front not that much.
Fresh oil might do the trick though.

Just went out to the backery shop on it, wow, big difference!
Poor Milton left a plush Jaguar with me, but will get a sporty Ferrari back ... not sure he will be happy with it though ha-ha.

Just found your thread re-shocks and thought you might like specs that Peter Madison (Robbie Madison RED BULL rider) father gave us and what we use for the Shineray X2 MX model with Fastace suspension. This we found works great all round for best grip and nimble handling.

The settings supplied below have been developed by an Aust suspension tuning specialist to provide the best over all handling package.

    FORKS Recommended settings

Fork Protrusion top triple clamp 9mm

    Thanks for that, nice reference.

I am slightly off here and there, but I guess that might be related with my anticipation for a light rider, as well as for the softer road-ride he prefers.

Funny is the zero rebound in the fork.
Due to the sticking of the fork you might think that.
However, I dialled in some rebound and it feels much better.
I remain thinking that some different oil will improve the fork (at least for road use).

Bike however suffered a ruptured fuel line (or so it looks) and was pissing all the fuel on the street yesterday.
They installed a new engine <50km ago, guess they got a hose routing wrong during installation.
First need to dig a bit deeper to solve that.
