12-09-2012, 09:15 AMA mate (over 60 years of age) tried to renew his C1/D Driving License on Friday and had his motorcycle license cancelled due to his age. He was told a new law was passed recently and the cut-off age for the China motorcycle license (E/D) is 60 now, previously it was 70 years of age.Anyone had similar issues or heard of this new driving license law and is able to clarify.....Yes, we are investigating with the vehicle management bureau and a friendly police station this coming week, only checking and asking here in MCM forum first and make people aware of the TIC situation.

12-09-2012, 09:26 AMSo surely it will be even lower for the "ladies" -- as with retirement age -- to "protect" them from "exploitation."

In Beijing, the 60 year old limit is enforced ... but, it appears that if you renew before your 60th, your D/E license is valid until it expires, although you do need annual "medicals" after age 60. With a 10 year renewal at age 58 (for example), the license is good until age 68. However, I don't know anyone who has tried to do the annual medical (post 60) to confirm this.
I do know a couple of guys who tried to get an E license (post 60) and were not allowed.
A strange wrinkle, though, is the handicapped category that permits post-60'rs to drive 3-wheelers. Some are 250cc, so I am curious if a JH600B would be allowed (with the handicap sticker, of course!).

Here is the new law ...
http://www.motorfans.com.cn/bbs/t_17487980.htm
My translation reading of it is ...
1) Get a D/E before age 60 (cannot get one after)
2) Renew before age 60 (maybe a 10 year renewal at age 59)
3) Cannot possess a D/E after age 70
4) Must change to an F at age 70
Maybe someone with better Chinese reading skills can clarify that?
