Well you see in Countries that can't just print money they have to put everyone to work, so instead of having a machine stamp out perfect washers or floor mats, they have Ivan or Yang Lou, running about wildly with a razor knife. I mean really would you rather pay 15.00 for a politically correct head gasket that fails immediately or .50 for some rough hewn piece of junk that lasts forever. You're reading this so you know where you stand. These foreign unfortunates know that if the stuff they make doesn't work their dead, good incentive. Be that way here soon, best sharpen up your razor knives boys and know how to use em.
You know when all the first rice burners came out they all said what a POS but now there are more of them on the road and working better than any other machine out there. Seen any 90's Caddies lately?
So who is to say? You understand and take care of a machine it's going to last you awhile.
As far as I can see the DF or a URAL aren't any different.Last edited by Bob form NV; 03-05-2013 at 09:11 AM.

Bob, words of wisdom up there for sure, you hit the nail on the head bluntly, and yeah we are heading there pretty quick in a reverse sort of way. Here is a very interesting article that I am sure parallels the Dong Fang Factory and way of doing things. I am sure there are exaggerations in the words but give it a read as its a real eye opener http://www.wired.com/autopia/2012/01...7&viewall=true

Goodbar, I took the tour of the Ural factory. It looks a lot like some of the machine shops I've worked in. Your new machine looks great, but after reading the article I believe I'll stick to the two wheelers. I sure do like the idea of drive over anything though. The boat set up was a whole 750 it's perfect for around here with my fishing hole just twenty minutes away. Thanks for the pic of the heat sink. I think it will look and work great. Have fun doing the mod on your pals DF. What engine oil do you use for your DF? Can you use synthetic? I was looking at this air filter I bought. When I look through the inside I can see lots of daylight. Is there suppose to be some kind of liner on the inside, or is it suppose to be like this? Doesn't look like it's capable of filtering fine dust. Are you suppose to dip in in oil? You can see how much I know of these things.

Bob/ yes you can get syn oil for wet clutch but I would rather wait until the engine is broke in as it may cause your rings and stuff to break-in in-properly and not seat and seal as syn can as I have heard cause bad break-ins. Too slippery. You need a little silver Swarthy oil and shavings in the oil.
Get a Magnetic plug and change the oil after 500 miles and then at 1000 then / maybe SYN oil would be fine then just not yet.
Yeh I know the Ural scares the crap out of everybody the first time they fly the chair by accident. I am going to pretend I’m on a farm tractor for the first month I ride the URAL and side car so I don’t flip or crap my shorts.
Back to the Df Bobber Mods:
- We put in his dual seat springs using the bracket I designed, Ill post picts of it/ looks great and he loves the seat now also. But…
EVERYBODY NEW WARNINGs X2 - if you take your tank off check all of the White plug-in connectors even the ones buried under the harness he had 2 of them that were connected but not properly snapped together as if the person ( kid probably) on the assembly line\\didn’t have the strength to push them tight enough to get them to lock. He had intermittent Turn sig and horn problems. That trouble is now gone. I also rewired his left turn signal were the wires were almost torn apart because ( another problem to fix or look at and check to prevent this) Make sure the large wire that goes from the Speedo sensor to the area near the headlight has a bracket holding it to the frame clamped on the thick part of the wire protector sleeve, because the white snap plug for it catches on the fork as you turn the handle bars and will stretch it and all the other wires near it ,mainly the left turn wires.
I made a bracket and installed it correctly as his was missing for some reason. I will bet others have this little bracket missing. Just trace the speedo wire and make sure the thick part of that wire is under a bracket near the fork brace. If it’s there make sure its tight. Anyhow Joe left happy and his DF bobber is now done and ready to ride finally. GEMLINS GONEGoodbar with Blue Fanger DF 250 RTB

OH yeh forgot : 2 things I crazy glued the rubber tank holders on so they dont fall off during tank re-installation and then I finger tightened his 2 Gas tank nuts
then gave them a gentle 1/4 turn and then added a drop lock tite blue to the threads to prevent nuts from coming off, I can see how people over tightened these and wrecked their tank. There is no way to know when to quit tightning the nuts on the threads but the harness is compressing so it never tightens fully until the weld weakens. Its actually not a bad design if you understand that they did this because the harnesses are all different heights. Use caution and just gentle pressure and lock tight.
I'll post picts in Wed afternoon.... I'm wiped outGoodbar with Blue Fanger DF 250 RTB

Goodbar I edited my last post with a few more ?s for you.
I'll change my oil. I hope I didn't do any damage as I've put 6 miles on it with the synthetic. Just use 10w-40 motorcycle oil? Thanks

I got the new flasher relay and mine seems to be working great now. However after I replaced it I decided to check the old one and it too also works, so I imagine I'll have problems down the line to deal with.
One day I will get under the tank and check things out but since everything is working fine now I'll let it fly.
Got my insurance this afternoon and it was more than my car. 250 a year
I have three brackets for the control wiring. Two are these wire jobs that are mounted to the top of the fork assy. The look like they might have been just for transport but i liked the way they keep things together so I left them. There is another one that I believe is the one you are talking about. It mounts to the bottom of the fork assy and has a grommet. I've turned it to it's limits and everythings seem to have enough play. I will make sure again. thanks for the heads up.
Glad your friend was happy and you guys had a good time.
