02-19-2009, 08:25 PMRicardo. I really like your fender modification as shown in your website. This involves fitting the guard from a Honda CBF250 (also called a twister in Brazil).

I was thinking of leaving out the original altogether. I've noticed that apart from the riveting to the fork slider guards you've also fitted a thin wire stay at the back. I'll do that as well.
The problem starts when you pop down to those licensed bandits at the Honda spares shop and find that the price here is 150 euros ( US$190) or (449 BRL). Just for comparison, the perfectly well-made original Qingqi mudguard costs 25 euros (US$32) or (75 BRL).
I've noticed that you say that yours is from an aftermarket supplier which is bound to be cheaper. Is it this one:

Hi Forchetto, I went today to the same aftermarket parts supplier (Centaurus Moto Peças) where I bought the front fender and took note of the maker's name.
The company name is MELC, and their web address is : http://www.melc.com.br/default.asp . Just to give you an idea of prices, I paid R$ 30,00 (BRL 30,00) for the fender at Centaurus.
After getting the fender I sandpaper it (all the surface), then I made a careful measurement of the fender height in relation to the front fork slider, in addition I used two pieces of rubber (folded) and inserted them on both sides between the fender and the fork sliders BEFORE rivetting the parts. This is fundamental to avoid breakage of the parts, and to avoid unwanted vibration of the mounted set. In reality you will be doing a "sandwich" - the plastic parts will be pressing a piece of rubber folded, in order to cushion the pression of the rivet gun.
Do get a 1 meter long electricity wire (covered with black plastic), and insert it through the small lateral holes you must place at the back end of the fender. The wire will go through the holes, being directed through the inner part of the fender. Good luck!Last edited by Ricardo; 02-21-2009 at 07:54 PM.

03-22-2009, 06:31 PMI found a good condition used one on ebay for a low price ($10). I did try to fix it like yours but decided to junk the original "Mad Max" type of guard that I've never liked, and fix the CBF's to the originals mounting points.
I had to separate the guard from the bottom yoke to ensure some space between it and the front frame tube, so I used 4x 25 mm long silentblock rubber mountings with M6 male threads.
It's now totally flexibly mounted. It doesn't stop any shit from hitting the rider but it looks good...mind you the original was no better.

I haven't seen yet the manual, I've just downloaded it following your very useful hint indeed. We have to praise Luis Carlos for sharing with us all such valuable information.

By the way, I improved a little bit more my Sundown STX Motard. I changed the original 12 tooth front sprocket for a 14 tooth Suzuki RM 250 front sprocket (original part). I ordered a 14 tooth front sprocket of the Suzuki DR 350, but the Suzuki dealer delivered to me the RM 250 part. In spite of that I could fit nicely the part, doing some minor adjustments as follows:
- the inner flanged wall is wider than the sprocket width itself (certainly to deliver extra-strength for a motocross bike), so I simply removed the "metallic spacer" in order to re-use the flanged lock washer and to be able to safely tighten the front sprocket nut;
- I had to open the chain at the master link and to connect the ends again after replacing the sprocket. I was fortunate enough to keep the original chain, which lenght was just exactly what I needed to re-assemble the whole set;
- after the service (that was done last Monday, 23/03/2009) I washed thoroughly the whole set before putting back the sprocket cover, and went home to oil the chain (while it was hot due to normal friction) with Bardahl MaxLube oil (specific high viscosity oil for kart and motorcycle chains);
- I am happy with the results up to now - in urban traffic - and I am looking forward to take the road to test properly the bike at different revvs and speeds. I am expecting to get a longer 4th gear, and a much longer 5th gear. In reality I am targeting a cruising speed of around the 100-115 km/h bracket revving at 7.000 rpm.
- when I have some spare time I want to surf the Gearing Commander site ( http://www.gearingcommander.com/ ) in order to work on gear ratios; but, in reality I am expecting to check everything at the road and not virtually.
