Yeah the Burly is more to my taste too.

What’s interesting both are pictured on the Burly Brand site, that being both versions of the Sportster, though not based off same type Sportster

They dropped the front 2” and raised the back 4”. The results is a level bike, the rake is gone.

If you can Google Jay Leno's show, I think just Jay Leno's Garage TV show, there is an episode with the Ryca/Suzuki Savages/S40's. Very cool.

I like the stock Suzuki S40 a lot. There is an issue with the cam chain tensioner. It runs out of travel way too soon. It is quite a unique set up. A gent on the Suzuki Savage forum does a mod of the plunger which extends the life of the tensioner and chain. Some owners are running out of travel on the tensioner at pretty low mileages. Some are sending off the plungers for the mod up front, so they won't have to worry about it for a long time. Luckily it is easy to remove and replace this plunger. You have to drain oil and pull the right side engine cover, then you can access the tensioner and see how far out your plunger has travelled. Some are at the end by 5000 miles, and some go longer to 15,000 or so. Suzuki hasn't acknowledged this problem, and dealers may not know about it since many Savages and S40s don't get a lot of mileage put on them. Suzuki would have you replace the cam chain when the tensioner runs out of travel, but the problem is that the tensioner from the factory does not have enough travel available. This is all documented with lots of photos and owners experiences on the forum. It would be an easy job for Suzuki to make a change in the plunger that would triple or quadruple the life of the cam chain and tensioner, and I bet it wouldn't add more than a couple of dollars to the price of the bike. Actually, in the old days several motocross racers had polished Aluminum and Chrome looking tanks like this that held up quite well. Hodaka, Huskys, BSA desert sleds, etc. The only real negative is they are too heavy. They do dent but that is better than breaking and leaking like the plastic tanks used now do. I know this first hand as I rode a Bultaco back then and ended up pushing the bike a couple of miles due to loss of fuel while my buddy with his dented Chrome and red tank on his Husky rode back to the truck.

The guy building this conversion kit is over in California and selling kits so others can do it. Go to this link to see what all he has done. Nice job in my opinion. I am thinking of buying a Harley Sporty here in China and using some of his parts or get some of Burly's scrambler stuff just for grins. It would still be a pig but I know I can legally buy and license the bike here in China. Also, I am seeing some of the used Sportsters going reasonably priced for China market prices anyway.
