Pull the cover off the front sprocket and count the teeth. I ordered the 30 tooth rear several days ago so will let you know how she does.
Edit: I pulled the cover and my 2012 has 13 teeth on the front sprocket.
I believe some have replaced their chain with a smaller one (420?) and therefore were able to fit a front sprocket with more teeth or modified the front sprocket area to take a larger 520 front sprocket.

He didn't give me a price cause I wasn't ready to buy right then and there! I really don't want to go through having problems with getting the paperwork to make the bike legal! And I also have no experience working on bikes at all and didn't want to screw up the assembly of the bike! what would you recommend I do? Your opinion would be very much appreciated!

if its a dealer INSTATE they do the paperwork , mail u a TITLE , plates and 1st years Tags , you only gotta get it inspected
my advise , call a semi mechanically inclined friend with a socket set , put it together over barbeque n beer , that's all it should cost u :p , there really VERY LITTLE assembly , like 3 bolts ? , unless your changing sprocket at same time then a bit more

Ask him/her the price. If it is close to $2199.99 (which does not include sales tax, registration, etc) and they are a legit business then maybe that is the way for you to go. He/she deserves to make a profit. If you buy online then you are pretty much on your own.
I don't know what you mean about getting the bike legal? It should pass the NC inspection once it is assembled. It can be registered in most states but you need to check with NC's DMV or maybe someone here will verify if the DF can be registered in NC.
The company I bought mine from sent me the paper work I needed so it was no big deal. I did it in the mail.
But if you haven't turned a wrench and don't want to learn then you should not buy a DF or perhaps any motorcycle.
It is a very simple bike to work on and has decent quality but if you don't want to learn to work on it then forget it.
How about taking a class at a local school on motorcycle maintenance and see if you are interested in learning?
If you don't want to do that then forget it.
My grown children asked me to teach them to ride motorcycles so I said to go take the MSF course, get your endorsement, and get back to me. Of course nothing happened.Vince

Take the MSF course first. Then check this out: 07 Honda Rebel CMX250 and your local Honda dealer will do all your repairs. If you ever want to trade up,the value will still be there.

#4130 Adjusted valves, and messed with the carb. UPDATE
08-04-2013, 12:13 AM
Hey guys. adjusted the valves today. Runs beautiful.. with just a slight ticking (there was no tick at all before as the valves were RIDICULOUSLY OVER TIGHTENED). I swapped the stock filter back on and capped off the stupid port where the crank case breather was attached just so I dont suck dirt in there while I test run with it. I was able to cruise at 50 on flat ground with a lot of throttle left. I think the valves made a difference for sure. Maybe slightly more mid range power now... but hard to tell. Still 40-45 on inclines.. but it runs on the flat much better. It does run smoother and start easier... with no more back fire through the carb.
I opened it up all the way on flat ground and was able to do 55 indicated but not a hair more. When it's wide open throttle around 50-55 the engine starts to skip and cut out and do some weird stuff... I feel like if it was smooth at this speed and throttle.. that there would be a lot more speed left in her
I had some jets left over so I tried to put a 114 in (the smallest I had) and it was way too big and made the motor run terrible. I just ordered a 108 main to try.. Not sure if the problem around 55 and wide throttle is a lean issue or a valve float. Barnone is running a 108 so ill give it a try.
Dan you say you are running a 112 main. Are you able to full throttle rev in neutral without any engine break up? I was thinking that maybe it would break up in neutral.. but as you get up to speed with that ram air that it might start running leaner and counter act the large jet.. making it run just about right. If this was the case though, full throttle at low speeds would make it run like garbage.
Im going to try the 108 and keep the filter in the stock orientation. Barnone, don't go for the 120.. it is just too much for this bike. ( I tried 114, 115, 120) The 114 would ALMOST rev smooth with the air filter totally removed.. but as soon as I put in back on it ran like crap .. even after turning the fuel adjustment on the carb almost all the way in (bringing it out = more fuel , bringing it in = less fuel).
Im hoping the 108 with some proper adjustments will take care of my problem and allow me to cruise at 55 without the engine bucking.
Barnone are you running the stock idle jet or a 42 or 45.
Btw for those that have asked I can confirm the 2012 has a 105 main and a 40 idle stock.2012 DF RTB_A
