If you post the links, perhaps those of us living in China can help. We have LOTS of experience being ripped off, and have a keenly developed sense of "too good to be true."
A price of $1,025 (US) translates into roughly 6,500-7,000 Chinese RMB. If the seller is "promising" delivery to NY, included in the $1,025 price, I'm pretty sure that it is "too good to be true."

I'd be grateful for any help!
There is this one http://www.tradett.com/product/u1796...ce-850usd.html
and a second at http://www.ec21.com/product-details/...--6653992.html
sounds to good to be true, but, everyone gets lucky once in a while. My greatest misgiving-aside from lost funds-is the lack of stateside dealer support that I may encounter if there is any issues. Thanks!

That one is totally FAKE. The ad is linked to the "dealer" website, and he claims that he is in Beijing. The website is offering brand new Ducati 696s for $3,450 each.

WOW! So, I called the number (it is a Beijing number, and I live in Beijing) and the guy said "the bikes are in Hong Kong and you have to buy at least six" ... so I said "sure, no problem! I also own property there! I will take ten Duc 696's, and will bring cash (Chinese RMB, US dollars or HK dollars, whatever you want). When can I pick them up? I can fly there any time!" The guy told me to F*ck Off (in Chinese) and hung up.
The other one also looks completely fake.
Sorry, but in China, the default is "it is always a scam, unless you can definitively prove otherwise."

Even if the Chinese bikes are legit, they are probably not EPA certified for import. Many states probably need DOT certification for registration, but even in states like Arizona where one could street register a motorized bar stool, lack of EPA certification would make the bike red flagged even if US Customs somehow were bypassed. It is probably in your best bet to buy a Dong Fang bobber from someone legit and mentioned in the DF bobber thread; dealer support wouldn't make too much difference since you could buy parts, but getting the bike itself would be the issue.
