09-01-2014, 03:45 AMRecently clocked up two long distance trips on my Shineray. (Totalling 7,000km). Including lots of horrendous roads, 4750m mountain passes and long straight roads.
Very happy with it so far, no major problems, but I think its time for a really good maintenance. The local mechanics (I live in China) don't seem to care unless their is a big problem with the bike. Deciding to undertake the maintenance myself. Currently I have these issues:
- Front brake pulsating at slow speeds
- Chain keeps stretching far too much resulting in rough gear changes (chain is new, sprockets aren't)
- Gear ratios are far too short for long distance
- Black smoke from exhaust at very high RPM's (I guess the carb needs cleaning)
- Bike stalls every 20-60minutes randomly. Easy to start up again.
- Battery needs replacing (2years, no change)
- Headlight needs change (I'm not sure which type to replace it with, I can't find this information anywhere) H2/H1??
- Slightly stiff steering at slow speeds (compared to another bike I drove)
I recently rented a Kawasaki 150 and was suprised at how well it ran compared to my bike. Smoother engine, a lot more power, better gear ratios and less vibration all around.
Get what you pay for I guess. Anyone got any recommendations on maintenance for the Shineray X1? I have a few months with lots of spare time so planning to spend a bit of time on it.
EDIT: Does anyone know what this a copy of? The repair manual included is in Chinese and need to get an English shop manual
Thanks.Last edited by VroomVroom; 09-01-2014 at 07:11 AM.

09-02-2014, 06:50 AMFront brakes is bent disc
Black smoke at high rpm is excess fuel unless it's high altitude only then needs rejetting
Chain stretching can be rest sprocket wear - a set with chain is about 50¥ but mine needs loads adjusting and I need buy some proper chain lube of taobao at 20¥ a tin
Can try get DID O ring chain which is better
Don't bother with only chain no sprockets poor choice there
I have a CG150 motor I have 15 T front 43 T rear and think it's the limit
Check and replace steering head bearings but these are shit design just bike ball bearings 10-20¥
Head light let me know as I have issues with seeing at night and assed off already haha

All good points but check your A/F adjustment ??? lights ??? must fit H.I.D.
Bike stalls every 20-60minutes randomly. Easy to start up again.
and change your air filter ??? could be running rich due to dirty filter"Arguing on the Internet is like running in the Special Olympics, even if you win you're still retarded"

It started doing it at high altitude. Then continued doing it until I went to a lower altitude. (it cuts out whilst driving at different speeds, no pattern here)
I have removed the air filter and cleaning it now. Just ordered lots of parts on taobao and will be replacing them shortly. (brake discs, pads, sprocket and chain, battery).
The headlights I just can't figure out what type. I will go to a mechanic shop and get them to replace.
Any idea of specialist tools I'll need for replacing the above items? At the moment i've gotten by with wrenches, few spanners, screwdriver and allen (hex) keys. Anything else I may require? I'm going to watch how-to videos. Feel like a fish out of water doing this sort of thing, but enjoying the process.

Make sure caliper slides are free and clean and lived with non oil based grease or there's more issues

09-09-2014, 11:46 AMOk guys an update. Thanks to some of the info given here and some help from the local mechanic, managed to fix some things but some problems remain.
- Front and back brake discs + pads have been replaced and work beautifully
- New chain and sprockets arrived, will change them soon.
- Sprayed carb cleaner into the air intake pipe into the carb. Stopped the black smoke coming out the exhaust.
- Battery replaced, works beautifully
- Headlight replaced, seems ok
Two small problems remain.
- Bike still cuts out every 10-20 mins. Doesn't seem to hold any pattern of RPM's/speeds/idling/revving. Just seems to happen anytime.
If I just flick the kill switch on and off it starts going again. (even whilst moving). Not a big problem but seems strange.
- Throttling seems a little bit spluttery whilst accelerating.
Given up with the sprocket changing idea. Not found different sizes and don't want to introduce more problems.
Any ideas? I will get some more tools this week and have a play around.

09-10-2014, 01:34 AMKill switch might be crappy
I've since found out that it earths the ignition windings stops the bike / meaning if you unplug ignition switch and kill switch you can kick start the bike and run! 8-10¥ put a new one on it or disconnect the black wire I think at the cdi then no switch turns off motor
Sprockets what sizes do you have or want? I'm 15/43 and pulls well still and rpm not to high at 80km but I haven't tried top speed ( but think 105km is still it just rev lower)
Clean your carb properly put a new plug in the engine and test if correctly jetted - try needle down one?! Or up one?! Inside the cars
Plug should come out slightly chocolate brown that's slightly rich and safe on motor

09-10-2014, 02:13 AMActually I replaced the kill switch a few months ago. Maybe the new one is faulty. I'll have an experiment by unplugging and see if it changes a thing.
Sprocket-wise can I just use any sprockets of that size? are they specific to the type of bike? I want lower rpm's at crusuing speed (60-80kmh). Not too fussed about increased top speed.
Needling down/up on carb? Don't know how to do this but I'll have a research, thanks.

09-10-2014, 02:18 AMI have a CG150 motor running 15/43 sprockets and feel that's about the limit for it - still pulls fine cruises fine and lower rpm
Sprockets pretty much same fit only few types in china but make sure it's same width as chain etc mine is 428 chain and be sure 428 width sprockets
Mine had 4 bolt holes was easy to get and could choose few sizes
Taobao also has them with plenty of sizes
Unscrew the top of carb lift out you see the needle - take cable out slide out needle and you see a C clip unclip move up or down one space - this alters mixture
You complained of black smoke so assume to rich - try one space down so needle sits lower letting in less fuel as it opens compared to previous
