Sherpa, TRex, Roketa 124cc Street Bike MC-38??

Hope I'm not butting in, but I was poking around the web for someone who actually owns the Ice Bear sidehack bike, and found this thread. It's great that it happens to be Barnone. We've spoken a few times about pitbikes and Chinese-built stuff on ADV. I've had both "Skyteam" 125 CT70 and Z50 clones for a few yrs. I have 2 of the Z50 versions. I couldn't pass up a second when Wholesale Cycle in Akron had them for $800 if you pick up yourself. Mine all say they were manufactured by Jaingsu Sacin on the MCO's. Sacin is the manufacturer I put on the VT registrations and they went thru fine. Mine have all had minor fuel system/starvation problems that were caused by the inline fuel filter at the carb floatbowl. Removing it or flipping it fixes the issue.

I also had problems (leaking fuel during transport in the back seat of a rental car --haha) with the charcoal canister and some of the vacuum emissions add-ons. Basically, I removed the canister, and plugged one vacuum port on the intake manifold with the appropriate metric screw and locktite. I left the air injection system on each bike alone because it causes me no trouble and probably helps keep the catalytic converter clean. I replaced the crappy air cleaners with Uni Pods, and put an automotive-type fuel filter in the end of the crank vent tube on each bike.

The only failure I've had w/ the bikes is a clutch cable that snapped at the lever on my CT70 clone very shortly after I bought it. Otherwise, they've been good bikes. I bought "Snow Hog" tires for one of the Z50s but they don't fit as well as people claim. I'm having to grind the Inner diameter of the beads so they'll fit on the rims.

I picked up a used "Wildfire" CT70 clone a few weeks ago. It's a different manufacturer than Sacin and it's actually a 70cc. From the VIN, it appears to have been built around 2005. It has a manual clutch, kickstart only, and has very good power for a 70. It only has 100 miles on the clock. I sorted minor issues like a dead/leaked battery that made a mess, and dead headlight bulb. It starts and runs fine-- with one exception. It burns a little oil and smokes like a 2-stroke. I test-rode and bought the bike at night, and didn't see that. The price was only $420 anyhow. Maybe I could have knocked him down some if I'd seen the smoke. Oh well. New rings were $8 on ebay, so I'll give them a try when I get them.

Oh, Ethanol gas has given me fits w/ all my bikes this summer. After sitting over the winter, jets were clogged badly and some of the bikes had nasty green corrosion throughout the floatbowl. Don't store them long w/ gas containing ethanol !

Please butt in since you have some good experience with these clones. How about some photos as I would like to see your bikes?
How about a link to the Uni Pods and the clutch cable source if you replaced it or if not how was the repair done?
Is the clutch cable issue a common problem. I haven't had one fail since BSA back in the 60's that was bad about breaking the ends off the clutch cable. It was just soldered on and a common repair was a barrel bolt.

When the clutch cable broke, I was at Vintage Motorcycle Days at Mid Ohio. We found the cable off an XR70 and rigged it to fit. The stock cable on my bike was really thick and brittle. Probably a Chinese manufacturing flaw.

They make some with straight and angled mounting flanges. Angled ones work best on these clone bikes. The straight ones have to be smushed against the frame in the back. I don't think they gave any performance upgrade, but they're much better filters than the stock units' 1/4" foam. I didn't change jetting. 'Didn't seem to matter.

Was your Ice Bear shipped from a warehouse in/around Atlanta? I exchanged emails w/ an Atl-based company last year, but didn't order because I couldn't find any reviews/opinions on the company.

I rigged up a piece of plywood as a temporary fix so no youngster gets their hand in the sidecar wheel.

Need to come up with a better solution. Maybe some slats like the ones on the car floor on both sides and the front which would also allow me to just throw cargo in the sidecar without fear of it falling out.

Where did you come up with the trailer?Somedays I want to pick my son up from school on my motorcycle and he has no where to put his back pack.My passenger backrest doesn't allow much room between it and me.

The trailers are Aosom bicycle cargo trailers. Recently I changed the wheels from bicycle wheels to pit bike wheels which I purchased on Ebay. Ran the bicycles wheels on the trailer below for seven years. I have pulled it behind previously owned Pitstser Pro 125, XT225, Sym HD200,DF250RTB and now behind my W650 and current DF250RTB.
It has always done well. The canvas is getting a little ragged with age so I might replace it with thin plywood.

These trailers are not legal but I have never been stopped by a LEO. I use them a lot in WNC to haul groceries, garbage, etc. I guess I could use the logic that they are bicycle trailers and therefore don't need to be tagged.

They are low enough so they don't block the moto's lights.

I sold one to my buddy Jim Tom (Moonshiners TV) to pull behind his liquor scooter (too many DUIs) and he uses it all the time. His is really getting ratty.
Here he is fooling around hauling trailer trash. He did not take her out on the road.

Thanks.I saw Jim Tom years ago before the tv show.He was on a CT70 I think.

How did you hitch the trailer to your DF?That would be perfect for those quick trips to town.I would change over to pit bike wheels also.How did you mount the pit bike wheels?What size?Looks like 16inch.Building a trailer like yours beat paying $600 for a hitch and $300 to $400 for a Harbor Freight trailer to pull.

You can use the bicycle wheels while while you are test pulling the trailer. They worked for years for me for years. Use BMX tires/tubes which are tough.

Pit bike front wheels are 12" off Ebay. Get wheels with 12 mm axles. Used a 12 mm bolt for the axles which fit in the frame tubing . Used 1/2" CPVC tubing for spacers. Remove the bicycle wheels and axles and drill through the 12 mm bolts where the bicycle axle was secured and secure with a proper size bolt. Use a u-bolt to secure the axle to the outer frame tubing.

Bolt the trailer coupler to lower shock mount or where ever convenient.
