Moving to Chengdu

I'm moving to Chengdu soon and will be renting a place. The location within Chengdu depends on motorbike restrictions.

Does anyone know up to date information about restrictions on motorbikes within the city ring roads?
I think there are restrictions inside the 2nd ring road but local knowledge would be great.

I don't want to be getting my bike taken off me when I am trying to ride it home.

Anything within the third ring road is off-limits. I've not heard of anyone with all the right paperwork having confiscated bikes (or even a fine) whilst riding inside the 3rd ring. The potential punishment is a fine of 200yuan and 3 points on your license. Never heard of them actually doing this, but always gonna be the risk.

I usually "sneak" into the city centre using some back roads and take my bike home, I've never been stopped doing so. You should be fine if not making a habit of it. They aren't strict about this, but they are getting strict about un-plated bikes and license checks all over Chengdu.

I'll definitely be getting all the paperwork etc. and it won't be a regular thing - maximum of weekly trips.

Welcome to Chengdu and be aware the motorcycle thieves (a.k.a scumbags who shall burn for all eternity in the fiery pits of hell) are prolific, determined and cheeky as fruck. Don't let your bike out of sight.

Thanks Charlie. I'm actually in that group too. Far from a regular contributor to it but you may have seen me there, I've recently bought a Shineray X5.
