#1 Kunming to Urumuqi06-29-2015, 03:32 AM
Hi all,
I'm planning in the next weeks a trip from Kunming to Urumuqi and were wondering about the weather. Google didn't really help me ... anyway I'm concerned regards rain in the south till I hit Qinghai where I hope it's dryer anyway...
Anybody got experience riding in those areas during July/August ?
Thx a lot in advance,
Sven

Hi Sven
On the long rides I have done lately to find out the up to date whether for the area you are riding thou? I just refer to a app I have on my phone and add the towns you will pass, I normally find the weather forecast to be accurate +/- 5 hours which should give you a good idea of the whether you should encounter. sounds like a great trip about 4000km 1 way ? will you ride back to Kunming as well . Yunnan and Sichuan are great provinces to ride in.
Good look and have a great ride"Arguing on the Internet is like running in the Special Olympics, even if you win you're still retarded"

IMO Just expect rain in the south and dry in the north for this time of the year and you should be fine, thats my genaral overview

The trip Motokai and I made in 2012 may give you some general idea about the weather condition around this time of the year:

The second part of your trip may overlap ours. The first half of your plan might get very wet.
By the way, the left half of your route, according to your map, seems to get into Tibet, which needs special permit for foreigners. It may be an issue.

@ Milton: thx for the hint with the tibet part.. that's just the rough route as I'll try to take the small "X"roads... but you're right.. I won't be able to get to Tibet alone on a bike... or I would be very astonished if so!
Reckon from "Deqen"close to the border I need to head straight north on on of those small roads... guess I'll need to ask around on the spot ...though google seems to show a tiny road ...
For the wet part... Thx, I'll prepare for it! ... hope it won't be too heavy
