Think you can get it in your name just on a tourist visa but you need a address say if you rent a place then you need a letter from landlord.
As to BikerDoc bike he need to chip in with that imformation.
No need for a Thail driving license but I am sure you could need a IDP.
From when you buy a new bike from a shop it takes about 6 weeks for all the bike documents and number plate to be ready.
But in the mean time the shop dealer can give you a spical plate which allows you to ride legally.
It cost about 50 Rmb.

Since I didnt finish my trip to Europe I have to start it again. I had this idea to buy a CRF250L in Thailand and ride it to Europe. Not anytime soon though. Will see how it unfolds ;)
