I think this is how it works.......there are manufactures of engines, frames, components etc..........and there are assemblers. You get similar mix and match plastics so you can have identical designs or designs that look almost identical from different manufactures. Same powertrains just different case end covers with an "assemblers" name......private label if you like.......even the engine manufactures buy components sometimes that's why the quality can vary wildly.......just depends upon the quality the assembler buys..........if he builds to a price with no regard for the end user the quality suffers these are the guys just looking for a fast buck...........the guys that are in it for the long term are understanding quality and the role it plays in the after sales period.
The short time, quick hit guy cares less about what happens after the product has sold.

I'm sure this method will soon (if it's not already) reach the Chinese automotive field and you will see specialist companies just supplying engines, another transmissions, another body stampings, wheels and so on, the cars from different manufactures will share components and look similar, it'll all come down to marketing and quality to sort out the winners from the losers.
