#11 Pig Town - part 3 - July 2006
06-18-2008, 07:48 AM
Passing the Great Wall at Huanghuacheng
Idyllic countriside
Corn Wherever you look
Hebei mountain road
Ooops! I smelled the brakes!
Hebei Pass
Revolutionary statue
Surrounded by locals
Datan
The yurt hotel in Guyuan. Jetski, ultralight, horse riding, ATV, ...
Sunset on a hill nearby the lake
Some nice lamb BBQ
We, as the only foreigners present at that time, had the great honor to light the fire, accompanying the ceremonies.
Quite good show in that remote tourist place.
Back to riding
Some really picturesque villages in the middle of nowhere.
Good off-road fun in Northern Hebei.

Hell yeah guys! Nice pics and looks like a proper good time hanging with the locals, getting wet and sinking your tires into a little mud n' rocks.
Have you guys though about getting your trips published or making a video about them?

I've read a lot of China reports but never about the Beijing and Hebei areas. Thanks for taking me along for the ride.
Lots of Beemers. I was under the impression that these would not be importable. Are they sold in China? I can just imagine the import tariff!

Yes, Beemers are sold in China, but as you say, import tariffs are high and many cities ban all bikes. It's sometimes still a hassle to get a big bike registered, but it can be done.
There are around 100 legal Beemers on the streets and 2nd hand market is coming up slowly, while prices for used bikes are still around the same as for a new one in Europe.

#16 Pig Town - part 4 - May 2007
06-20-2008, 04:33 AM
This was the 4th, and so far the last Pigtown ride. Since we noticed significant changes on route, dirt roads are being replaced by paved ones and construction for a resort in Pigtown started, we are going to search for new places in the area, which there are a lot.
Day 1 - Lunch Time
Up the mountain
Wildlife
More wildlife
Between Fengning and Weichang
First night campsite
On the road again on the second day
Hole in the mountain
The road through the national park "The emporer's Hunting Ground" near Weichang.
Hebei - Inner Mongolia Border
On the way to our 2nd nightstop
2nd night campsite at one of the many water reservoirs in this area.
Together with our new friends, the people who are looking after the reservoir's dam and its surroundings.
Day 3 - Sunrise over the lake
Once again on the way to Pigtown
That's one reason we call it Pigtown
Chasing pigs
This young bull gives us s..t about our presence
Nice hills in the grasslands ...
... with some more cows
One bike felt a little tired
Another one was brought deep into the sand.
Picking up some food and drinks a the local supermarket
Some scenic views after we came across the Pigtown pass
And finally the map

Really great photos! Makes me wish I was there too!
