428 is his bike's chain size. Don't see how a bad rectifier would affect your headlight problem since the light works when you push the passing light switch.

Headlamp issues & a battery run down, was guessing they both may be related to the rectifier. Will pull off tank & take a look. With the earlier posts, did you find a way to activate the manual light (upper right) switch or did you wire headlamp direct with the black wire or other?

My battery issues were a dead/damaged cell ( volt meter read 10 volts) and was not a charging problem. I'm guessing that my rough driveway and the hard tail caused the battery failures but also could have poor quality batteries. I got one of those http://www.batterystuff.com/powerspo...09A2-BS12.html and so far so good.

My head light problem was caused by the blue/white connection under the tank being pulled apart maybe by me removing the tank? Anyway I plugged it back together and the switch on the right side of the handle bars works as it should.

Well does that mean American compliance therefore nothing or did you find the original worldwide set up?

Pulled tank, all wiring looks well & snug, Checked left switch assembly , all looks snug. Still no headlamp running.

Great ride today, Clutch tight have loosened as much as I can. Neutral evasive.

been looking dont have link for rectifier anymore . when got bike headlight would dim when reved and pop bulbs when returning to normal revs , rectifier fixed that , I think it was this http://www.scooterparts4less.com/web..._Rectifier.htm , 2 plug rectifier

gun you sure you have not just popped the low beam or does high beam not work either ? I ride rough roads and I'm going thru headlight bulbs like candy , if its on when I hit a pothole it breaks : \ , 800 miles and 6 headlight bulbs , and 10 tail lights broken

had same issue with tail running light , finally just bought some led strips cut bulb socket out and wired LED strips in , 1 for running light 1 for brake , very dim during the day but at least it stays working

Thanks, I thought because the passing light worked that the bulb, headlamp assembly and wiring was cool. Will check tomorrow. Any hope of discovery helps.

passing light is high beam , only the light thats on breaks , most commonly the low beam , I am currently using the "parking light" in the headlamp as my daytime light because my lowbeam is yet again broken , and saving highbeam/passing light for when actually needed

gunna actually cut that socket out as well and replace with higher quality car headlamp socket/bulb , our bulb looks like a small house hold bulb outdated and low quality

ps - my rectifier problem , was also causing bulbs to pop headlamp/tail lamp , and it even burned out my turn signal relay
light would dim when rev motor , and surge very bright returning to normal revs usually killing the bulb on the surge

others said they rewired to fix the dimming problem , but all I changed was rectifier and gave same results (no more dimming or surging)

also my headlight on/off switch is disabled (always on) as most are , if any have converted to make it work I would like to do it also , so please explain how you did it

my GF still giggles about my title - 2010 DONG , "you gunna go sit on that big dong again" : p

I've already considered what you're asking about. The frame doesn't have enough height or strength to support that engine.I was looking into using the GS500 engine that's derived from the older GS like you're speaking of.Anything can be done with enough money. You could redo the engine mounts on a custom chopper frame cheaper and easier than modifying a DF frame.

Thanks Ben. Might just look around at some other engines maybe even an old 350 fourstroke dirtbike engine. Startinh from scratch on. Custom framr would defeat the purpose of wanting a bike on the cheap but ill keep shoppin around
