I have heard the same "we will blow XXXX off the map" or "we will kick their ass in XXXX" coming from 16 year olds in USA, Mexico, Australia, UK, Korea, Germany, Italy, and Spain. You kind of have to be more grown up than they are to keep one's sanity. I have as many or maybe more bad China days than most anyone, but I have not found any country that can throw rocks in this glass house we call the planet earth.

Another commonly misconceived prejudice (based on lack of genuine experience) is ...
"Chinese women are weak little waifs who will do whatever the man wants."
Hmmm ... ok ... obviously promulgated by someone who has never actually had a Chinese girlfriend/wife. Even still, luv em to bits!

And how many American civilians died compared to Chinese at the hands of the Japanese during WWII? The Chinese are plenty aware of America's massive involvement in helping to defeat Japan. Ever heard of the recent Chinese blockbusters "The Flowers of War" and "Back to 1942"? Both have plots that involve Americans saving Chinese from the Japanese. On the other hand when was the last time you watched a Hollywood movie that portrayed China and the US as allies fighting against Japan? In fact when was the last time you saw ANY positive potrayal of China or the Chinese in a Hollywood movie?
Don't get me wrong, I'm also disgusted at the level of mindless hate that China as an entire nation is displaying towards Japan right now. But I'm perplexed by your need to mention the US in your post. Is it hard to imagine that Americans would find it easier to forgive Japan than the Chinese?

Not even a fraction of a percent. The point is that Japanese aggression directly impacted people in my family, but we got over it, and don't harbour ill will towards Japan.
I thought Kung Fu Panda was pretty good.
I mention the US because I'm American and we were attacked by Japan. ZMC mentioned he's from the UK, which was attacked by Germany, yet he doesn't hate Germans. Cultures that aren't rooted in "face" tend to be much better at forgiveness than those that are. I'm only sharing my personal experience of being egged on in conversations with locals when they ask where I stand on the Japan issue. So to answer your question, no, it's not hard to imagine, but it is frustrating watching young people being poisoned with questionable propaganda.
Cheers!
