I hear what you say about the accidents.. I also hear what you say about the licenses and yes.. You're not wrong there.. The thing is the locals get away with it because.. they are locals.. They go to another area and they will get hammered.. This is the way it is here.
As you know.. It doesn't matter how good or experienced a rider you are. TIC.. It comes at you from all directions and it doesn't matter how careful you are here. You can't be that careful.
So there you are lying on the ground with a broken leg (if you're lucky) and some old biddy on her ebike is munched up. You have no insurance and no license.. they WILL throw the book at you, if for no other reason than to make an example of you.
So. I really do suggest you look at ways of getting a tourist driving license and doing it properly even if it costs you a bit more and you have to spend a bit of time. It's just not worth cutting corners... pardon the pun.
The police have chased us in the past and when they caught one of my friends they beat him up.
It is a crime to leave the scene of an accident.
Yes.. This is China.. But China is Changing .. very quickly..
By the way.. It's worth it.. Riding bikes here in China is one of the most amazing things you can do on a bike.. There is just SO MUCH happening one way or another.

China is not like "every" country. It looks like a normal one, it is not. You want to ride in Asia, no problem. You want to ride in China, prepare yourself in the proper way people adviced in these posts.Since I never been in China at all , im not sure what to expect.
If you want to ride here, go legal, if you think "I just do it" prepare for the worst.www.Sabine-Hartmann.com
