Prince those pictures look just how I remember it, paradise. I went down last year for the National Day holiday in October to avoid the droves of domestic tourists that swarm everywhere when given the chance, and found it a fairly quick, easy trip. Definitely keen to do it on two wheels, you're doing a good thing by checking out how this all works for us.
Btw fellas please don't have a go at each other, everyone so far has given great info based on their personal experiences and recommendations, it's all very much appreciated. You've got more experience than me in these matters so all advice is welcome, of course everyone has a different standpoint, we should respect that.
I've spoken to the lady again, turns out that the rush was because they were ordering other stock today to have shipped down, so if I wanted the bike could arrive tomorrow, but she needed to know. Instead, I'm going to train it down on Saturday, try out a bike bought by a previous customer, and make a final decision then. If I order after trying on Sat. should only take 3-4 days for delivery. Price is to be talked over, hopefully can get it for 23,800 as advertised in Kunming. Getting pretty excited here..

Ha ha it is fatal to let any Chinese seller of anything sense eagerness to buy . Just the fact that you are asking to buy from another city and prepared to buy the older model just before the new release is giving the dealer shivers of greedy joy joy. Act like you don't care about buying it and never let on you have any sort of urgency. BTW I doubt the new model has any advances in technology , probably just new graphics and nothing actually useful like a new shock or better forks.

Foxy the price of the YBR250 was about 25,000 yuan a year or two ago. However since the release of the Suzuki GW250 at 24,800 being a liquid cooled twin Jianshe have had to rethink their strategy. So if you ask they'll quote an older price, I wouldn't bank on 22,000 yuan possible maybe, they may dig their heels in and refuse to go much lower than 23,800 being about all you can really expect, plus maybe 500 or so registration & insurance (depending on province).
Foxy, pay a decent deposit maybe 1000 or so and pay the rest after they have gotten the bike registered. If you pay upfront some dealers get very lazy and take forever to get the bike registered, if ever at all. Not having all your money will keep them concentrated.
Maybe you could get some beefier tires http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=...id=38560085636
Or maybe a luggage rack http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=...id=37200127628

I have YBR250. Bought it just over a year ago. Rode it "around" China, now mileage is about 26-27k and I had only 2 minor problem with it. None of them made me push it to a mechanic.
The only bad thing is the suspension (as ZHU said).......if I only had the skills to upgrade it
me ~75kg + boxes and rack ~20kg + my stuff ~30kg and the back bottoms out
In the mountain at high altitude 5th gear is useless you ride down hill. Bike loses about 20% power
and I had the above tires ZMC recomended. Heavy duty, long lasting (about 14-15k km for rear), average on wet but no tragedy, probably best option for Chinese tires
here are some pick of my YBR250 with all the luggage on

After speaking to the shop again it seems like they won't be going below the 23,800, as ZMC suggested might be the case, we'll see on the weekend. Whatever colour they have, I'll be complaining that I want the other one, complaining it's not the latest version, complaining it doesn't come with a gold espresso machine and a travelling circus, generally making myself seem the most reluctant customer out. At the end of the day though, I want the bike, so if I can get it a K or two cheaper, great, if not, I'll probably still be taking it anyway.

Modron you've enforced what I keep hearing, very reliable bike indeed. Shame about the suspension though, have you heard of anyone modding it? Any idea how to go about it?
Prince excuse the ignorance but would the suspension you put on your 125 be suitable? Also, 'all-round HID'- that's a headlight right? I'll be looking for the biggest juiciest horn I can find, I mounted a couple of truck horns and fog lights on my little 110 Hero Honda in Tamil Nadu, used to clear the road like Moses through the Red Sea, goats, cows, dogs, idiotic pedestrians, all fled posthaste. The only problem was I kept killing the little battery :(
Don't want to jump the gun as I'm still far from ownership, but itching to get my hands on this thing. To be upfront, this'll be the biggest bike I've owned, keen as mustard.
Btw LJH you're on the money, our affection is still fresh, I have no desire to throw Mrs Foxy under the proverbial bus any time soon. From the sounds of it tho Mrs Lao Jia Huo should be checking her bike every time before she gets on, for cut break-cables, missing bolts and the like

Hi foxy
The dealer fitted some HID to the front which was 8000K type best to get 6000K more white at a cost of 120rmb with the horn not that big mate heheh just ask the shop he should have loads in stock just get him to get out a few and get him to hook them up so you can hear them first before he fits its ok . now with my back shocks i just got some cheap gas shocks of taobao looks great but not a lot better then the OE ones , but with these i can easy adjust them with the nice tool you get with the kit
But here is a link to Taobao for shocks to fit YAMAHA bikes but not much for 250cc YBR but have a look
http://s.taobao.com/search?atab=stat...th=28102:84570
loads of pages to view when yo get your bike spray some light oil or WD40 down the inner part
part of the clutch cable from the clutch lever end mine got a bit sticky after 1000 KM and its get
progressively harder to pull the clutch lever in and you don't notice how hard its get untill your hand starts to hurt
thailand and hainan 2014 1258.jpg
just some cheap gas shocks works and could sort out the back to stop it bottoming out 2 up with gear
now you will be hitting the rainier season so need to think about a cover

IMG_0202.jpg
IMG_0203.jpg
you can get them for Mr & Mrs i like the way it covers the whole bike with the clear plastic screen at the fronts so the ligths can be seen and you can still see the dash ok cheap as chips and does the job"Arguing on the Internet is like running in the Special Olympics, even if you win you're still retarded"

could only find stuff on Ebay uk see link
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YAMAHA-YBR...item5d4bbf0ce6
shocks.JPG

Sakura, CST, Maxxis and Cheng Shin are just the same brand, Cheng Shin rubber of T@iwan. In fact I prefer the Sakuras that come on the bike for street use, just that those Cheng Shins will give you more road/trail bite. Depends on what you wanted to use the bike for.
The rack was just an example, buy the one that suits needs best, again imported brand stuff is better.

130/70-17 'block' type tyre possibly better suited off road
YRB250 rear luggage / side rack combination & alternative rack with front engine crash bars
YBR250 specific front screen
YBR250 adjustable pre-load rear mono-shock
