The end of the cable was a little frayed,and untwisted. Maybe the term "snapped" wasn't the correct word to use,but in the heat of the event,it seemed to be the best choice.
Back in my old days with British bikes and Harleys, it was not unusual to have the end pop off the clutch and brake cables. These were required in your tool/spares kit.
